McKittrick keeps Swords on track
SWORDS ladies went back to the top of the league table on Saturday with a hard-fought win away to Corinthians.
The visitors made life hard for themselves in the first half and never really got a hold of the game, letting Corinthians have a good portion of the possession.
And Stephanie Jones in the Swords goal had to pull off a superb save before halftime to keep the teams level.
Swords knew they had to turn things around in the second half and began well, attacking Corinthians and creating a goal chance straight from the tip-off.
The improved performance was evident throughout the team and some good attacking play put the Corinthians defence under pressure again and again.
The all-important goal finally came mid-way through the half when LeeAnn Wood attacked down the right and sent her cross into Aisling Corby in the circle. Corby controlled the ball and passed to the onrushing Siobhan McKittrick who made no mistake in burying the ball past the keeper.
Swords pressed for another goal, and came close through a short corner, but the scoreline stayed at 1-0 and they were just relieved to come away with another valuable three points.
SWORDS: Stephanie Jones, Carla Arthurs, Niamh Cregan, Fiona Walshe, Sorcha Murtagh, Cerrie Byrne, Lee-Ann Wood, Siobhan McKittrick, Breda Orohoe, Marian O'Brien, Aisling Corby, Rachel Jones.
