No let-up in Swords' great run

TWO big victories in 24 hours saw Swords continue their winning streak in the Dublin Senior Ladies Division 3.
An excellent week began with a 51-30 home defeat of local rivals Tolka Rovers last Wednesday, with the match effectively decided by Swords' impressive shooting from outside the perimeter.
Indeed, the deadly duo of Jodi Black and Eilis O'Mara notched up an incredible tally of 11 three-point shots on target.
So comfortable was the victory that coach Laurie Daly was able to rotate the squad, keeping in mind the following evening's away trip to UCD.
That proved a welcome luxury as Swords made light work of the students to claim a 49-32 at Belfield on Thursday.
Led by Orla Noonan and Miriam King in the first quarter, Swords claimed an early advantage with some fine passages of play. The home side responded, but that early flurry helped Swords eke out a five-point half-time lead.
Coach Daly opted to begin the second period by applying a full court press and this had the desired effect as Swords upset their hosts' rhythm.
Crisp passing led to some fine scores and the threat came from all quarters, with every player registering at least one score. In defence Amy Black and Breda Ororoe excelled under their own boards.
