Rush set for 'tough' cup clash in Dundalk

Wednesday February 17 2010

RUSH Athletic had no game last weekend with their clash against Quay Celtic, due to be played last Friday, postponed due to a bereavement.

The Fingal side were hoping to bounce back from a torrid 6-0 defeat at the hands of Ratoath Harps last weekend but they will have to wait for another day.

Apart from that annihilation Rush, who are fielding an almost totally new team, have been holding their own and currently lie in mid-table in the Major Sunday.

'Basically we have a number of players being introduced to Senior football for the first time this season and it is really about ing the team,' said manager Mal Bollard, who added that he was 'very happy' with the level of commitment and willingness to learn shown by his squad so far this term.

Local rivals Portmarnock are continuing to set the pace in the Major Sunday and looking good to gain promotion to Intermediate football.

Balbriggan, on the other hand, are fighting a relegation battle.

Rush will now play their cup game against Quay Celtic tonight ( Tuesday), in Dundalk and Bolard is hoping his side can come away with a win.

'It will be a tough game because although they are in the league below they are in top position and have yet to be beat-

'By all accounts they are a quality team and we will do well to come away with victory.' MALAHIDE'S topsy turvy season hit another high point last weekend as a goal in the dying seconds from Stephen Conway gave them a much needed victory over Dublin Bus. Since coming out on top in a local derby against Glebe North a few weeks ago, Mals were knocked out of the Intermediate Cup by Rockmount and then lost to Phoenix 3-2 last weekend in the league, so they were in desperate need of a pick-me-up here. They went ahead in this game, but with three minutes to go Dublin Bus equalised and it dropped before Conway ran in one-on-one with the keeper and finished well to snatch the win.
