PLAYED in Clonalvy Park in front of a big crowd, last season's 12D champions kicked off their campaign with a well earned win, with Ryan Hand giving a man-of-the-match display in the centre of the park.
The visitors hit the front on 20 minutes, a lead they they held until ten minutes into the second half, when Ross Murray levelled proceedings for Charlie Moore's side.
And straight from the kickoff, Murray grabbed his second with a piledriver from just outside the small box to put Cloughertown 2-1 up.
Kinnegad levelled proceedings five minutes later, but with Shane Joyce, Ryan Hand and Cian Gaffney dominating in the middle of the park, Cloughertown were on top again.
Dean Moore, their leading scorer from last year, was to come close on a number of occasions before the striker showed lightning pace to escape his marker and put the home side back in front.
Six minutes later some great work from full backs Stephen Rogers and Graham Mc Dermott put Joyce through down the right and his inchperfect cross found Moore who curled the ball over the keeper to get the Clonalvy Park boys off to the perfect start. CLOUGHERTOWN UNITED: Luke McCarthy, Luke McCarthy, Adam Carberry, Jack Flynn, Stephen Rogers, Graham McDermott, Thomas Flynn, Ryan Hand, Shane Joyce, Cian Gaffney, Owen Lenehan, Ross Murray, Dean Moore, Glen Colgan, Dillon Collins, Ben O'Brien. - Meanwhile, Cloughertown under-14s put six goals past Ratoath Harps in the C Division.
