Doyle off to a flyer

Wednesday September 01 2010

MAJOR Sunday side Rush have played two games already in their new season and notched up three points, having won one and lost one.

Their first game was against Mickelfridge at home and they deservedly won thanks to a goal by Mark Doyle in the 50th minute following good work down the left by John Farrell.

' I was very happy with the first game of the season. We were the better team but missed a number of chances. The encouraging thing was the number of good performances on the day,' said Rush manager Mal Bollard.

Their second game was against Fairview last Tuesday, and despite another goal by Doyle, Rush lost 2-1.

' We started off sluggishly and two sloppy mistakes handed the advantage to Fairveiw,' said Bollard.

' In the second half we were all over them but only managed to get one goal back.'

The manager said the aim for the team this season is to be challenging for the league and doing well in the cups.

' The young lads who came up from Under-18 last season have a campaign under their belt now, and so we expect to do better this time round.'
