Early will not be losing any sleep over Mal's appeal

Portmarnock's Brian McCann and his teammates are delighted to be playing in Division 1B of the LSL

PORTMARNOCK manager Mick Early announced last weekend that he is ' not concerned' about Malahide's legal appeal against the LSL's decision to move Newbridge up to the Senior Division, a move that saw Ports also gain promotion to Divison 1B. ' As far as we are concerned we have already played our first game in Division 1B and it's too late to be putting us back down into the Major Sunday. ' I'd be very surprised if Malahide managed to over turn the league's decision.'
Early spoke of his club's delight at receiving news that due to Liffey Pearse's withdrawal from the top tier Newbridge would be elevated and as a result every team below the Kildare side also moved up one position.
' We are happy to be out of the Major Sunday. We were delighted when we heard the news.
' There is a policy in the LSL to opt for promoting the third placed team and so we knew we had a chance of benefitting. We had known for a while Liffey Pearse were about to pull out and were just not sure whether they would announce it before the start of the season so that we could gain from it.'
However, while Early is confident that his team's newly instated postion in intermediate football is safe he will be keeping an eye on the result of Malahide's legal appeal.
He felt the LSL's decision to put Newbridge, the third team from the division below up to the Senior was the right one.
' It meant not only Newbridge benefiting, but also every team below the Kildare side went up one place and that saw us promoted,' she added.
