With the start of the season fast approaching Glebe finished off their series of friendlies with an impressive victory over Shelbourne Reserves last Tuesday.

' We played well and we were happy with both the fitness and shape of the team. The result probably flattered us but it was more about letting lads know what we were about and what shape we are looking for,' said manager Liam Kelly afterwards.

Shelbourne started well and put Glebe under pressure at the start before the Balbriggan side went ahead when Adam McGarry, one of the new kids on the block, shot home from 25 yards after a cleverly taken short corner by Chris Costello.

McGarry, a right full, has joined from Shelbourne recently and is a very attack minded player.

' He is very good on the ball, he is quick and can play on either side. He is a good all round player and gives us lots of options,' commented Kelly.

Glebe made it 2-0 five minutes later when a great run by Noel Barrett was spotted by Darren McCann and the subsequent cross by Barrett flew in behind the keeper.

' It was a fortuitous goal, but well deserved as we were on top at this stage,' said Kelly.

Then just before half time a mistake in the Glebe back line allowed Dinny Corcoran in to pull one back for Shels. It was 2-1 at the interval.

The second half continued along the same lines with Glebe looking impressive and they went further ahead after a back to front move resulted in a slotted goal by Pat Campbell.

And the icing on the cake was a Danny Moriarity goal after he rounded the keeper and coolly made it 4-1 in the closing moments.

' All in all a worthwhile exercise,' Kelly continued. ' We kept our shape and got a good run out. The goals were a bonus. The lads showed themselves to be at the level we would expect them to be coming into the new season.'

Glebe have played no less than eight friendlies in recent weeks and are now all geared up for their first game against Bluebell next weekend. GLEBE NORTH: Jason Lowney, Darren McCann, James Bell, Anto McGuinness, Andrew Hageman, Noel Barrett, Chris Costello, Pat Campbell, Adam McGarry, Stephen Place, Keith Dunn.
