Satisfying start for Skerries

Wednesday September 01 2010

SKERRIES Town kicked off their new Leinster Senior League season with a stalemate against CYM Terenure on Sunday. The first competitive game is always a challenge, with some players on holidays, plus pre-season injuries, and in this instance the opponents were Skerries' relegation partners from last May.

On an unusually windy day, the end result was probably acceptable to both sides, although home supporters would point to the fact that the only three goal chances in the game fell to Skerries. Manager Stephen Healy had mixed feelings afterwards.

' It was our first game of the season. We had a lot of new players playing at this level for the first time and even though we had the better chances I'm happy we kept a clean sheet and we'll move on from here. ' Commitment-wise, the players gave everything and that's all we can ask for.' - Skerries man Johnny Tindall, a member of the Shelbourne Under-15s management team and headmaster in Milverton NS, scooped the e1,000 first prize in the Skerries Town 100 Club Patrons Draw at the Park Lane venue on Sunday last.

He is the first of 12 monthly winners that are part of the Skerries Patrons Club.
