SPORTING Fingal have completed the signings of defenders Ger O'Brien and Kenny Browne.

Ex-Ireland Under-23 international full-back O'Brien (25) joins from Derry City while Brown (23) arrives from Waterford United, where he was voted supporters' player of the year last season.

The double-signing brings to four the number of new players confirmed for next season's debut campaign in the League of Ireland Premier Division for Liam Buckley's side. Midfielder Ronan Finn and goalkeeper Brendan Clarke were already signed from UCD and St. Patrick's Athletic respectively.

In other squad news, Buckley has opted not to renew the contracts of four players - Robbie Doyle, Philip Byrne, Chris Konopka and Fiachra McArdle - and thanked them for their contribution to the club's progress since their entrance to the League of Ireland in March 2008.

In welcoming O'Brien, voted Shamrock Rovers player of the year in 2007, before moving to the Candystripes at the start of last season, and Browne, Buckley emphasised the importance of adding defensive strength for the campaign ahead.

He said: 'It's fantastic news that Ger O'Brien and Kenny Browne have decided to come on board. Their quality and experience provides us with added quality in defence which will be a vital area for the long campaign ahead next season.

'Ger has a proven record in the top-flight for the past number of years with Shamrock Rovers and Derry City. He was the first-choice right-back for the Ireland Under-23 team last year and I believe he possesses the ability to develop his game even more with Sporting Fingal into the future.

'I'm aware that Ger had a number of options available to him both here and abroad. However, I'm thrilled he's chosen to sign for us due to our swift progress both on and off the pitch since joining the league two years ago and the plans we have to expand the project further into the Fingal area.'
